Its been almost a week

Last night we whent out for our friends dinner party. Everyone ordered junk and beer. The smell of cheese, fries, dips and wigs was in the air, curling into my nose and it was kinda delightful.

I look at the menu and I went for hunters dinner. Meaty ribs were available, no sause, just spices and since I'm honored to be close firends with the staff, the scooped in some veggies and an extra rib.

By the end of the night, I was craving somethong sweet. Didn't gave into my cravings, got home, opened a can of cocunut milk, toss in some almond butter and honey. That did it.

Lets see what new chanllenges and recipes the weekend brings.

Trying to loose weight or more energy??

In the past few months I've bee reading alot about hormone levels and their role in mood, weight managment and performance. I came upon reading a bunch of times about eating meat and nuts for breakfast would support this.

Doing some reasearch a came upon a so called "Breakfast of Champions". It doesn't involve beer or gluten. But meat and nuts. It talks about rotation of this so food sensitivity and allergenic reactions won't occur.

I highly recomend this... Breakfast of Champions

a day away

Do groceries, google "paleo diet", just do it.

Guys keep it simple, don't worry about what you can't eat and eat what you can. Again keep it simple, the same food is not going to kill you. We are animals, we are machines, we function under fuel, we have strong minds.

Pleas gaher your stuff, plan ahead, don't don't stuff your gut with protein, don't eat alot of fruits, eat alot of veggies and don't mind the fat.

Keep me posted on your stuff, see you "ladies" on monday,

Omar

Fish oils

You tke fish oils everyday, right?

No?

Hellooo McFly?

Hahaha! thats how this article by Mike Rousell starts. It talks bout fish oils and overal health, joint pain and fat loss, serious fat loss. If someone is interested in better body composition give it a nice nice look.

At the end is all about the benefits of fish oils. Now lets talk about quantity. This article advetises Flamout because this is the brand that this website supports. My dear Oakvillians. Go to Whole Foods, Organic Garage, Popeyes Supplements or other health store. The cheapest brand is NutraSea. The big bottle cost 40 dlls and this will last around two months.

By the oil and not the caps. Why?? 1 cap = 1 grm, 1tsp = 4.6-5grms, more oil, less money, capiche???
Males first two weeks 3 teaspoons a day, afterwads only 2. Ladies, 3 half teaspoons a day, then half a teaspoon twice  a day.

Omar

Serious Fat Loss on Paleo

Heres the deal with it and what I'm going to do this coming month. Not for looks but I really whant to get at least 6 pounds of my ass, this would equal quicker met-cons. Enough protein (2 block over the prescribe Zone blocks) and lots of smart fat will equal no strenght loss.

This is a small part of the Poloquin Fat Loss Seminar... cannot argue with this guy about this.

Approximately 75% of people are carb intolerant and should not be eating grains; the grains are getting people fat. The first step is to get the Omega 3s in balance by taking hi-quality fish oils.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids from pharmaceutical grade fish oils are the most valuable supplement you can take. The subject should take 15g/day for two weeks if deficient, then reduce the dosage to 5g/day indefinitely after that. Fish oils will help burn fat and prevent fat gain. They improve serotonin levels (mood), make it easier to move nutrients in and out of cell walls, reduce joint inflammation, decrease the amount of sugar your body will absorb, improves blood pressure and decrease insulin output when taken with a meal.

You must eat protein with every meal even breakfast. A meat and nut breakfast will make you leaner even if you do not change the rest of your diet. It is best if you rotate the meat each breakfast. Eat 6-7 meals per day with protein plus smart fats in every meal.A long-term low carbohydrate diet is the solution for fat people even after they have lost the fat. To begin the diet, eat only meat, fish, eggs and vegetables (green and leafy, no starchy, no carrots) some nuts and seeds.

Questions on this please e-mail me: omar@canadiancrossfit.ca or please post on comments on the blog.

Weight loss on Paleo

Weight loss

You can lose weight on the paleo diet. Expect a steady pace, faster initially and then slowing a little as you get nearer to your optimal weight. Here's something about why. Calories probably do matter, it's just not something you have to count. The trick is that when you've eaten a paleo meal you'll feel as satisfied as before, but on less calories. Also, on the paleo diet you'll be cutting down on the recreational eating - you primarily eat to stave off hunger, not for fun. Snacks aren't for fun, but to kill hunger.

Don't stuff yourself like there was no tomorrow:. Remember that your next meal is never further away than the snacks (real foods) you always keep with you. Try to eat just the right amount to make the hunger go away - with the knowledge that you can always snack between meals.

Always eat mixed meals with lots of vegetables. Eating "only" meat is likely to get you killed in the long run unless you possess the specific knowledge of what to eat on such a diet. The traditional winter diet of the Inuit isn't made up of skinless chicken breast morning, lunch and dinner - it's far more sophisticated than that. Eat mixed and you don't have to worry about getting sufficient nutrients. Personally? Well, I am not a big fan of vegetables, but the meat and fat sorta makes up for it, complements it.

Remember that after a week on strict paleo foods everything will change. You will feel very different and the way you experience hunger and eating will be different - it will be better and more manageable.

You'll be eating very different foods than you're used to. Start out conservatively and see how much you need to feel full. E.g. don't panic and make 6 eggs and 12 slices of bacon, even if you can stuff it all down. Make 3 eggs and 3 slices of bacon for breakfast and see how far it'll carry you. You can always supplement with snacks (fruit, meat, nuts, carrots) if you happen to get hungry soon after breakfast.

Notes:

1. Fat and adequate protein will prevent loss of lean body mass

2. The diet does not lower your metabolism because you eat plenty of nutritious food.

3. (Complex) carbohydrates are just complicated molecular arrays of sugars. When absorbed by the body they are converted to simple sugars. Humans can taste simple sugars as "sweet" on their tongue, whereas a potato doesn't taste sweet despite producing a big sugar load on the body.

4. Your body will be more conditioned to burning fat for energy when you stop relying on sugar/starch/complex carbohydrates for energy.

5. Willpower is not needed in the same amount as with other diets, as your addictions will fade in a few weeks, and you simply do not starve on this diet.

6. If coffee, alcohol, smoking or any other drug disturbs you appetite i.e. "munchies" or appetite suppressors. Minimize them

What to eat

Do eat:
• Meat (and fat, fish, eggs)
• Vegetables (and berries)
• Fruit (and nuts)

Do not eat:
• Dairy (milk, cheese, butter, etc) (*)
• Grains or corn (maize, wheat, barley, rice, etc.)
• Starchy vegetables (potatoes, yams, jerusalem artichokes, etc.)
• Sugar (refined)
• Legumes (beans, soy products, peanuts, cashew, lentils, etc.)
• Chemical food additives

Go easy on:
• Salt (can cause overeating and hypertension and dull the senses)
• Processing of foods (nut flours/butters, pork rind flour, etc.) Eat simple foods instead
• Artificial sweeteners (don't dull your senses, and they cause insulin responses simply by being sweet on the tastebuds)

Basically: if our ancestors could pick it from a bush or catch it with a spear, you can eat it. The rule is that a food is healthy, if you could have eaten it in its raw state. This is a naturally occurring "low to medium carbohydrate" way of eating.

If you have to "cheat" the most forgiveable cheat is butter, full cream and cheese, and fermented milk products like yoghurt (as long as you're not lactose intolerant, which incidentally a large percentage of the world's population are). But honestly "cheating" doesn't mean anything but being weak; its not different from dropping the weight you could've hit you PR with; is no different than stopping 300 meters before finishing your 5k run; is the same as stopping to drink water and complain about a workout when you are going "for time"... but again as Coach said, "its OK to be a pussy".

Remember:

- Willpower is not needed in the same amount as with other diets, as your addictions will fade in a few weeks, and you simply do not starve on this diet.

- If coffee, alcohol, smoking or any other drug disturbs you appetite i.e. "munchies" or appetite suppressors. Minimize them

The Challenge

'EatingClean...StayingLean...CrossFittingMachine!!'

Instead of saying you're going to lose weight, promise yourself that you're going to see how good you can feel if you eat the best possible foods available to you, i.e. the Paleo Diet! Give it one month, and see if by January 31, you don't feel the best you've ever felt! Your energy level will soar, you'll sleep better, and you'll notice a reduction or elimination of symptoms to a host of maladies including, but not limited to, acne, joint pain, headaches, fatigue, and gastric distress. Oh, and might I add, if you follow the eating plan properly, that excess weight you're holding on to will be easy to lose. Nice side effect, isn't it.
